Fire Station Transformation: Slate Sol-Silicate Brick Stain Update!

Fire Station Project with Sol-Silicate Masonry Stain The fire station was originally painted over 10 years ago with standard paint. Over time, the surface began to chip, peel, and discolor, changing from a darker slate color to a greenish hue. Instead of using traditional masonry stains, we applied our Sol-Silicate Masonry Stain. This product is based on potassium silicate technology, which allows it to permanently bond to painted surfaces, including ribbed split block.

In early March, we applied a test sample and allowed it to cure and weather through spring, summer, and early fall. The results showed that Sol-Silicate successfully bonded to the existing paint and will remain in place as the original paint gradually degrades, which may take up to three years. Unlike standard paint, which fades and loses color over time, Sol-Silicate’s mineral pigments will stay vibrant, even as the base paint wears away.

Our Sol-Silicate stain can be applied even to newer paint, allowing it to form a lasting bond that works its way deeper into the masonry over time.

Important: Any loose or flaking areas of the original latex or acrylic paint must be removed and cleaned before applying Sol-Silicate.
