Is the substrate MASONRY? (Brick, Mortar joints, Concrete, Stone, Precast, Hardie Boar, Stucco/EIFS)

Do NOT use product on plastic, metal and wood, as it will not adhere to these surfaces.

Perform a Water Absorbency test

Please spray water on the surface and ensure it absorbs. If the water is trickling down, you have one of the following issues:

  •  A water-repellent sealer
  • An existing painted surface might have been applied

What if the existing surface has been previously painted?

If there's existing paint on the surface. use the SOL-SILICATE product you can directly apply it over the painted surface. Refer to the instructions provided with the SOL-SILICATE product for further details. Sol-Silicate pH is 11. We have additional Silica and additional ingredients added, that achieves the pH slightly lower and less water glass, achieving an adhesion to any latex or acrylic paint. Suitable for interior and exterior, including Hardie Board.

Use a moisture meter to assess the moisture of each wall

If the moisture meter reads over 10 % please STOP as this surface will have problematic areas in the future. If the moisture meter is under 10% please PROCEED. Meter will show areas of high moisture content. Once Masonry Stain absorbs into a surface, it needs the moisture level to be below 10% once it cures and integrates into the masonry substrate. Any brick with mold/mildew should be sprayed with our Mold-Fungi Remover, which . Any building that has oil/grease stain or needs a general cleaning, or neutralized from an acid wash, should implement our Metal/Mason Clean. It has a pH of 9-10. A clean brick or masonry will allow our ECO-PRIM and Masonry Stain to adhere to your walls properly!

What Should I Do If I Have Mold or Algae on My Walls?

Any brick or masonry with present mold/mildew should be sprayed with our Mold-Fungi Remover. Allow to cure up to 24 hours, before rinsing off with water. Designed to combat mold and fungi on construction materials such as Brick, Mortar, Stone, Stucco, EIFS, Cement fiber board (Hardie), Cement-Lime Mortar, Cement, Concrete, along with Roof Shingles. It is highly effective at eliminating mold and fungi that damage the structure of construction materials, with deep penetration into substrate materials mentioned above. It is easy to use and does not require any specialized equipment, making it suitable for DIY mold removal projects. It is also ideal for professional disinfection of mold affected walls in buildings. Product has a smell of a liquid detergent and can be used interior or exterior, including drywall with presence of mold.

How Do I Clean My Walls Properly?

Our Metal-Mason Cleaner is perfect for all masonry and concrete surfaces. It also acts as a neutralizer with a pH of 9-10, ideal for balancing acidic brick and ensuring a clean, ready-to-finish surface. Metal/Mason Clean will allow our ECO-PRIM and Masonry Stain to adhere to your walls properly! It is also safe on Glass Windows without causing any reactions. Simply apply with brush or spray and rinse off with water within 10-15 minutes of application! Do not forget to properly rinse off with water to prevent proper adhesion when staining. For light general cleaning, it can be diluted 1:1 with water. Metal-Mason Clean can be applied on new brick and mortar that were damaged from use of muriatic acid, as it will neutralize the wall. Be sure to wear gloves. Product has an odor similar to Ammonia.

Primer is KEY! Please do NOT skip this step

Please start the project by applying the ECO-PRIM. You can Spray, roll or brush. Let it cure between 12-24 hours. Our primer will prevent streaks, uneven absorption and help the stain increase Its strength over time. Also, our Eco-Prim will harden your masonry, via waterglass (potassium silicate) in the event of slight flaking of sand/mortar. Once ECO-PRIM is crystalized and cured within your brick and mortar, it turns into a shape resembling a quartz crystal. Our Eco-Prim has the same base (waterglass) as our Masonry Stains, without our fillers and colorants, allowing to penetrate deeper into a masonry cavity. You can dilute Eco-Prim with Masonry Stain or Sol-Silicate, up to 10%.

Masonry Stain Application

Masonry Stain pH is 11-12. Apply the first coat of masonry stain. If you feel the stain is too thick, you can dilute it up to 10 % of the bucket volume, using our ECO-PRIM. For example, if the bucket is 15 L or 4 Gallons, use 10 % (meaning 1.5 L or 0.4 Gallons) of ECO-PRIM to dilute. DO NOT ADD OR DILUTE WITH WATER!!! When applying a second coat, please ensure not to dilute stain, when applying darker colors.

Can I achieve a Transparent (Lasur) Finish?

Any of our Masonry Stains that are diluted, greater than 10%, apply FIXATIV. You can dilute any of our stains with FIXATIV up to 90%. The transparency will vary from Masonry, example stone or brick. Please be sure to perform small test area. FIXATIV can also be used as a primer, in lieu of ECO-PRIM. It contains additional carriers, allowing you to dilute MASONRY STAINS properly without losing its effectiveness and longevity. DO NOT ADD OR DILUTE WITH WATER!!!
