Why do we need Eco-Prim?

Eco-Prim helps to deeply bind to the masonry cavity, penetrating further than our Masonry Stain. It serves two key purposes: 1. It reduces the need for additional coats of Masonry Stain, which is more expensive. 2. It prevents streaking, especially when working with darker colors. That’s because it evens out the absorbency of the surface, making sure you get a smooth, consistent finish.

Does Eco-Prim prevent moisture from escaping?

Absolutely not. It doesn’t block moisture or affect water vapor transmission. Since Eco-Prim is based on the same potassium silicate formula as our Masonry Stain, without the fillers and colorants, it penetrates deeper but still maintains breathability. This is critical for preserving the health of your masonry.

Eco-Prim acts as a liquid binder that absorbs deeper into the brick, helping to strengthen the finish and reduce the need for multiple coats of stain. In some cases, like with cinder blocks or common brick, you may need two coats of primer, depending on the porosity.

How does Eco-Prim work?

Once it dries, Eco-Prim forms a crystal-like structure, similar to quartz, through a process called **silicification**. This creates a durable bond within the masonry surface, adding longevity to your project.

Application tips:

Because Eco-Prim is highly liquid, you’ll want to apply it with care. Don’t drench your roller or brush—just apply a small amount, ensuring even distribution. Treat it like you would stain a piece of wood—smooth and even, stopping at natural breaks like mortar lines.

Let it cure for about 12-24 hours before applying any of our Masonry Stains. Some surfaces, especially those that are more damp or porous, may take longer to crystalize, so each project can vary.
